The late Bailey and Annie Lee Duncan opened Duncan Funeral Home in 1954. Before the opening of the funeral home, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan were entrepreneurs in the gas and grocery store business throughout the Settegast community.


Together Mr. and Mrs. Duncan attended Commonwealth School of Mortuary Science. They owned and operated funeral homes in Cleveland, Livingston, and Houston Texas. After the passing of her husband, Mr. Bailey Duncan in 1959, Mrs. Duncan was left to run the business, for many years she successfully ran Duncan Funeral Home until her health failed.


Mrs. Duncan was among one of the first black women in Texas to succeed in the funeral profession. She was a member of the Houston Funeral Directors and Morticians Association.


Mrs. Duncan was also known for her generosity throughout her community by providing families in need with a funeral for their loved ones as well as an active member in her community. In February of 2002 Mrs. Annie Lee Duncan passed away leaving behind The Duncan legacy.


Today Duncan Mortuary, Inc. is owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Allen and staff. Entrepreneurs themselves, Mr. and Mrs. Allen are dedicated to keeping the Duncan tradition alive. Serving generation of families top quality and affordable services for over 50 years, Duncan is all about the community. From hosting annual school/food drives to helping out their neighbors, they stand firmly on conducting services done your way.
